Corporate Responsibility in VNG Norge
MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGING DIRECTOR
The last two years have been eventful and brought significant progress for VNG Norge. We have been awarded a total of eight licences – including two interesting operatorships – we have seen growth in the number of employees, and we have established a subsidiary in Denmark.
With this progress comes an increasing economic, societal and environmental responsibility. It is therefore important to establish and live up to high standards in all aspects of our business. Our industry plays a central part in the climate change discussions. It is important for VNG Norge to be a part of the solution rather than the problem. Gas is the cleanest form of fossil fuel. As a gas provider to the European market, we contribute to covering an increasing amount of the energy needs on the continent with gas, rather than more polluting fuels, such as coal. We wish to convey that there is still a long term future for the oil and gas industry. As of today, we are 55 employees in our company, and we are still recruiting.
Within health, security, environment and quality (HSEQ), our main objective is to avoid that our business results in damage to people or the environment. The Mexican Gulf catastrophe demonstrated to the entire world how important it is to have good and thorough security routines. We put a lot of emphasis on creating a best possible working environment for our people, because we think this considerably contributes to the promotion of this objective.
Our employees are our most important asset. As managing director, one of my primary tasks is to ensure that our employees have a good working environment, and exciting and challenging tasks. The results from our annual employee survey demonstrate that people enjoy working in VNG Norge. Absence from work is low in our company, and we have good management systems, where health, security, environment and quality are core indicators. This has resulted in us being recognized as a professional and serious player, with authorities and partners alike.
There will be many interesting tasks for VNG Norge going forward. We have great ambitions on both the Norwegian and Danish continental shelves, and we are well positioned to make new discoveries and develop our exploration activities further in new licence rounds on both shelves.
Good management systems compose the backbone of how we carry out our business. They ensure that we run our business with a strong focus on quality, efficiency and security. We report monthly on HSEQ to the Board, and have clearly defined performance targets for all our projects. As managing director, I have my own strategic target, tied to value creation through people and good processes. VNG Norge is also driving the focus on HSEQ in the VNG Group as a whole.
We regard our corporate social responsibility as an integral part of both existing and future explorationand production activities. To ensure that our corporate social responsibility is anchored broadly within the organization, we have conducted a thorough internal process to develop a strategy for corporate social responsibility.
Corporate social responsibility in VNG Norge is all about enabling value creation simultaneously for the company, its employees and the society that we all are part of. This makes sense for all.
