We like to compare ourselves to a honeybee. Industrious and charming, through perfect collaboration, communication and know-how, both we and the honeybee aim to produce attractive, precious, high-calorific products which are sources of energy in their own right.

Honey and gas also have another important aspect in common. Nectar is solar energy captured by plants and stored in the form of sugar. Honeybees help themselves to this nectar and store this chemically bonded solar energy in the form of honey in their nest. In the same way, the origin of petroleum and natural gas lies in solar energy captured by plankton. Every comparison has its limits and so, naturally, does this one. To begin with, unlike in the bee world, the female crew of VNG Norge consists only of queens, and the men in our company don't die of the consequences of their first rendezvous. Nevertheless, we feel very close to the honeybee. Apparently, the bee feels the same way. Why else would she have chosen the colours of our logo for her ball gown? This cannot be a coincidence. Our little mascot is called Charlotte. We expect her to inspire and guide us. We keep an open mind and will gladly look upon the honeybee as a role model in those aspects that suit us. Bees perform a tail-wagging dance to tell each other where the best sources of nectar are situated. How great! If only we could do that! If ever a bee colony organizes a dancing course for humans, our geosciences group will be among its first participants.
Honestly, who’d want to work for a drab mosquito when a colourful bee is buzzing around in the same line of business? What partner in his right mind would choose to take a walk with a skinny mosquito when he has the chance to dance with an exuberant honeybee? But mind you, the bee does have a sting – just in case!
