In addition, we must have people who can lead and manage projects, plan and execute drilling operations and plan developments. And expertise on support functions enables our core areas in reaching our goals.

Some of our personnel were recruited directly from university, while others have been in the industry for several decades. Differences in professional and social backgrounds stimulate and develop us, and make our company a good place to work both professionally and socially.

A multidisciplinary approach yields good results. While we seek professional expertise, we also emphasise collaboration and project participation across discipline boundaries supported by excellent technical solutions in order to enable efficient communication.

Two of our employees have taken their PhD’s while employed with us.
Mohammadhossein Mohammadlou wrote his thesis on: “Integrated petrophysical study with emphasis on applicability of the NMR log to interpret fluid saturation and movability”.

George Jones defended his thesis on: “Sedimentary processes and stratigraphic record of the shelf to slope transition; an example from the Karoo Basin, South Africa” at the University of Liverpool.

Competence and career development

All employees receive a thorough training in our management system. Our expertise management tools help us systematically map and meet knowledge requirements for various positions and roles. In addition to participating in internal and external courses, seminars and field trips, we provide a great deal of on-the-job training. Individual employees can acquire fresh challenges and learning opportunities by accepting new assignments and responsibilities, participate in major projects or lead smaller ones. This generally happens with guidance from more experienced staff, who has been given a specially defined mentoring responsibility for younger colleagues.

Each employee has good opportunities to influence their own career development with us. Promotion up the specialist career ladder does not depend on a higher position becoming vacant, but is based on the individual’s performance and demonstrated ability to develop. Management and specialist career ladders have equal status with us. This opens opportunities to undertake an executive role and then return later – if desirable – to a more specialist job.

Collaboration across two office locations

_MT87771Our offices are located in Oslo and Stavanger. This means that VNG Norge may offer positions to specialists from both cities. Extensive use of videoconferencing and good IT tools enable collaboration between the two locations. However, all of us must expect some travel between our offices for project meetings, technical discussions, social events or team building.

Being present in both Stavanger and Oslo also facilitates contact and cooperation with partners, authorities, suppliers and other stakeholders in both cities
